What makes a goal SMART?

A hope says where you'd like to go. A SMART goal tells you what to do on Tuesday. It has five qualities:

SSpecific
One clear thing: who, what, where. Not a cloud of good intentions.
MMeasurable
A number you can count without guessing, so you know when you've done it.
AAchievable
A stretch, not a fantasy, given the life you actually have.
RRelevant
Tied to the reason you care, so it still matters in week six.
TTime-bound
A real date on the calendar, not "someday".

A hope“I want to pray more.”

A SMART goal“I will pray for each of my kids by name for ten minutes during nap time, five days a week, through March 31.”

One more thing this coach does: it measures what you can do, like conversations held, visits made or chapters read, rather than outcomes only God or other people control. Faithfulness is yours; the fruit isn't.
